For the first time, les Rencontres d’Arles is offering an award to assist with the publication of a dummy book : Luma Rencontres Dummy Book Awards. Endowed with a €25,000 budget production budget, this new prize is open to all photographers and artists using photography who submit a dummy book that has never been published. Special attention will be paid to experimental and innovative editorial forms.
An international jury with Maja Hoffmann (founder & director LUMA Foundation, France), Sam Stourdzé (director Les Rencontres de la Photographie, Arles, France), David Campany (writer, curator, artist, teacher, United-Kingdom), Horacio Fernandez (historian, curator, educator, Spain) and Sebastian Hau (artistic director : le Bal Books, Cosmos-Arles Books, France) chose the project of Yann Gross titled The Jungle Bookfrom 30 selected projects. Special mentions was awarded to John Mac Lean (Hometowns) and Yoshinori Masuda (Tiger 2).
The winner’s dummy book, as well as those of the nominees, are on display this summer at Cosmos Arles Books, the new Rencontres d’Arles satellite dedicated to alternative editorial practices.The winner’s book will be produced in autumn 2015 and be presented at the 2016 Rencontres d’Arles.
