The Paris Photo fair ended yesterday. Aperture Foundation and the Parisian fair announced the winners of their common PhotoBooks Prize. Mathieu Asselin and his book Monsanto: A photographic investigation (Verlag Kettler) receives the first PhotoBook Prize and a grant of $ 10,000. The Photographic Catalog of the Year Prize was attributed to Mattie Boom & Hans Rooseboom’s New Realities: Photography in the 19th Century (Rijiksmuseum / nai010). Museum Bhavan by Dayanita Singh (Steidl) was declared recipient of the Book of the Year Award. Finally, a special mention of the jury was given to La Grieta by Carlos Spottorno and Guillermo Abril (Astiberri Ediciones).
The jury was composed of Florencia Giordana Braun (director of the Rolf Art gallery, Buenos Aires), Krzysztof Candrowicz (artistic director of the Triennial Photography, Hamburg), Mitch Epsteint (photographer, New York), Nathalie Herschdorfer ( Director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Le Locle) and Cristiano Raimondi (Director of Development, New National Museum of Monaco).
The prize exists since 2012, when the partnership between Paris Photo and Aperture was initiated.
