The latest issue of Aperture Magazine, published this autumn, is entitled “The Interview Issue”. As its name suggests, it contains ten different, in-depth interviews with well-known photographers, including William Klein, perhaps the most famous among them, but also Bruce Davidson, David Goldblatt, Bertien Van Manen, Paolo Gasparini and Ishiuchi Miyako.
As we turn the pages, we discover a few short retrospectives and learn more about the people behind the big names, what they do, who influenced them, their thoughts and the way they see the world and photography, sometimes a look back over their career, all usually in conversation format. It almost feels as if you are sitting down with them for a chat.
In this issue, Aperture breaks away from its usual format based on a central theme, but brings its readers something just as valuable: diversity, with an overview of some very different approaches to photography, from the documentary to the diary, and from the four corners of the world.
