Antidote: The Street Issue by Hans Feurer

Preview

A theme : The Street…

For this new opus, the Antidote editorial team wanted to tackle one of the greatest sources of inspiration to the fashion industry. It’s no more than a step from the street to the catwalk…and today it’s crossed more than ever in both directions!

A symptom of an era, off-site shows flourish on the web pages of the most important titles as much as on the innumerable Street Style blogs. This phenomenon highlights styles that are often more powerful than the “total look” and is overturning the image of the fashion business.
Wishing to engage with the spirit of the moment in a manner that was not just “following the fashion”, Yann Weber also wanted to provide a panorama of the inspiring people that we deal with or that we fantasize about, and glorify them for the occasion.
A gallery of atypical portraits, this issue of Antidote needed to be shot live on location by the master of the genre….

An artist : Hans Feurer
To exalt these characters created between Paris and Miami, Hans Feurer was the obvious choice. The figurehead of street fashion photography, with his telephoto lens and absence of artifice he stands for the complete opposite of the “studio” aesthetic.

A true master of the use of natural light, all his photos are taken either as the sun is rising or in the glow of sunset. And he knows just how to organise the exposure to show his beautiful models vibrantly and spontaneously in action every time. They, in turn, threw themselves into the game to return a series of heroic images. More than 150 in all.

It was a privilege to welcome Hans as our guest of honour and add Antidote to the list of famous titles that he has shot for since the 1970s: Vogue (US, Japan, France), Interview, Another, I-D, Numéro and many more.
First issue produced with Katell Pouliquen as “Editor-in-Chief”, the Street Issue is the opportunity to enjoy a fresh range of writing talents for Antidote.

We publish a completely new text by the writer Nicolas Fargues, who offers his very personal vision of the streets of Yaoundé, a megalopolis full of contrasts, and an extract from the next book by Emmanuel Pierrat (Paris, ville érotique).

Besides these stimulating accounts, there are texts on fashion, with Street Style (by Lauren Bastide), the appropriation of street identities in fashion collections (by Fabien Constant), the influence of Street Art on creators (by Hugo Vitrani), and shop windows and set design as marketing tools (by Serge Carreira).

Faithful to our approach to show multiple perspectives, Antidote has taken diverse standpoints: cinematic when considering the street as the perfect setting for directors (by Samuel Jamier), and sociological when it comes to the choice of appearance at a demonstration (by Alice Pfeiffer) and the representation of genres in the urban context (by Agnès Giard).
Lastly, you are lavished with free samples on the anthropology of voguing (by Laurent Goumarre), music and the public arena (by Bertrand Burgalat) and perfumes and their invisible trails (by Sarah Bouasse).

Adopting this approach of intersecting perceptions, we have endeavoured once again to bring you an innovative slant on our chosen theme, and sincerely hope that you take as much pleasure in exploring this new Antidote as we had in producing it.
