Fine Art and the act of creation has always been top priority for Alexzandra R. Chandler, her metaphysical IV to life as she deems it. With a B.FA. & M.F.A. from Savannah College of Art & Design and love for working with all mediums, it was the dark room that became her true calling. According to Alexzandra creating has not only acted as the purest form of love in her life, but has also managed to sustain her head above water during her more perilous chapters in life.
“The act of creation has served as my strongest ally as well as my greatest weapon. Whenever I would find myself facing a dark chapter, I would also find myself completely immersed in my work. After the storm would pass, what was left behind was a beautiful and tangible extension of myself rather than a missing component of my being. We have no control over the shadows in life but we do have control over how we respond to them. This particular body of work power helped me truly experience just how much power the act of creating has in our lives.”
Her unique printing formula took her over to 15 years of experimentation in combination with fearless darkroom exploration. It all began by looking closer at the “happy” accidents that will inevitably occur in the hand-printing/developing world of photography. This 25-step process takes weeks to bring to its final phase of completion and cannot be replicated digitally. What makes this formula so raw and real is that it is the interaction of light within the enlarger that creates the dimensional reaction between the two negatives that are at play. Photoshop can not generate this effect, only the irreplaceable printing by hand in combination with light can result so dimensional and esoteric be created.
