This young artist was born in the Soviet world, at a time when life was very difficult because of the lack of many objects of consumption, including, often, food. And everyone invented solutions, tinkering with objects, becoming creative because they had no choice.
With humor and, as he himself says, a certain nostalgia for the years of his childhood, the photographer reconstructs his memories in carefully staged pictures, with a very sure sense of color.
And he adds: « Although today this lifestyle is more often seen in domestic decorations, I am trying to revive in my photographs what once was a vital necessity ».
Born in 1986 in Minsk, Belarus.
He graduated in 2008 with honors from the Belarus State University, specializing in Mathematics.
Since starting to work in Fine Arts photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 2009, Shlyk has had solo exhibitions in Minsk (Belarus), Moscow and Saint-Petersburg (Russia), Shanghai (China) and participated in several international photo festivals in Netherlands, UK and France between others.
He today lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium.
