Jenkins Johnson Gallery, San Francisco and New York, will present work by Ethiopian photographer, artist, and cultural entrepreneur Aïda Muluneh (b. 1974, Ethiopia) whose vibrant photographs were recently acquired by the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and featured in their exhibition Being: New Photography 2018. Muluneh’s vibrant photographs express what it is to be an African woman, to encapsulate gender and identity, and to position it within the post-colonial experience. She interrogates the foreign gaze, and also raises the awareness of the impact of photography in shaping cultural perceptions.
