Rich of 130 photographs signed Matthieu Chanel, accompanied by texts by Florence Loncq, “Voyage en terres de semences” published by Agrosemens takes us on a tour of France of agroecology in twenty portraits of peasants, some of them well known , like Charles Hervé Gruyer, leading figure in permaculture, or Daniel Vuillon, one of the founders of AMAP. “I designed this book for the twenty years of the 100% organic seed company Agrosemens, which gave me complete carte blanche, as in the context of an artistic residency,” explains Matthieu Chanel. For this project, which spanned a year, the photographer went to meet men and women who produce seeds for Agrosemens or are customers of this activist family business, driven by a holistic vision in which humanity’s vocation is to take care of the Earth.
“This book is intended to be a witness to this community of hearts, free spirits and work. A community, so different and yet so similar, which defends, against all odds, a resilient and nurturing model which revitalizes territories by creating value locally: whether social, environmental or financial,” underlines Matthieu Chanel. The portraits and everyday scenes captured by Matthieu Chanel make perceptible the total commitment – physical as well as philosophical – of these farmers, who are making the revolution without throwing stones but by rolling up their sleeves, patiently working the soil to sow the seeds. seeds of other possibilities to help germinate and grow a better world.
