The agnès b. store in Marseille is hosting an exhibition of photographs by agnès b. on the Palace of Versailles. From February 22 to April 5, 2025, visitors will discover a series of never-before-seen photographs taken by the stylist, capturing the timeless majesty of the castle and its gardens through a unique and personal lens.
Over the years and seasons, agnès b. always returns in the footsteps of her childhood in the Park of Versailles, a place that she deeply cherishes: from the Bassin de Neptune to the Allée d’Eau known as ‘the Marmosets’. Through her lens, the stylist does not seek to magnify the historical grandeur of Versailles, but to reveal its secret poetry. Her photographs offer an intimate vision of the site, far from the usual clichés, highlighting the subtle beauty of the details, the play of light and the atmospheres often invisible to the eyes of visitors.
The exhibition features a series of photographs of Versailles, where the classic and the contemporary meet. The photographs oscillate between respect for the historical grandeur of the place and the personal touch of agnès b., which invites spectators to rediscover this heritage in a new light.
Agnès b. also photographed Nan Goldin’s prints, which were exhibited in the Tunnels des Fontaines in the Versailles park, providing a contemporary and poignant vision of this unique space, less known to the general public. Furthermore, the photographs of agnès b. of a standing stone, a sculpture by Giuseppe Penone, installed facing the Grand Canal, completes this exploration of art in the Park of Versailles. Although the works of Nan Goldin and Giuseppe Penone were presented at different times and in different places, they find an echo in the singular vision of agnès b. harmony between art, history and nature.
Through photography, a medium that she particularly cherishes, agnès b. continues to explore art and history through her lens. For agnès b., these images are a tribute to the timelessness of Versailles and the fragile beauty hidden there, far from usual representations.
