This sale is the first part of the Jean-Claude Eideliman collection, which he built up over the course of ten years to arrive at this library of some of the most notable artists of the 20th century.
Highlights include a selection of 107 prints by Henri Cartier-Bresson, all signed by the photographer himself. The collection also features an important set of books signed or autographed by the greats, including Brassaï, William Klein, Edward Weston and Lucien Clergue (Lot 114).
Part of the collection consists of rare Japanese books from the likes of Yasuhiro Ishimoto (Lot 191) and Daido Moriyama (Lots 243 and 251), books on South America, and several issues of the art magazine Le Point, as well as a small set of books by Edward Ruscha (Lots 283 and 288).
The estimated worths are considerably low given that many of the items are out of print. One exception is Lot 210, a complete, original and signed 1956 edition of a work by William Klein, which also features an original autographed drawing from the painter Peter Klasen.
Finally, Beautiful Jaipur from 1958 (Lot 50) is a signed, original edition from Cartier-Bresson, in very fine shape, with an estimated worth between 2,000 and 3,000 euros.
