From 8pm and until late in the night, the Kulturhaus Dock4 was the venue where the dining event « Say Cheese » was taking place with barbecue, bar and DJs. Photo experts who were music fans played the festival DJs, like Krystztof Candrowicz – curator of the Trienniale of Photography opening in Hamburg on June 18th.
« Say Cheese! » is a special photo-culinary journey of discovery, inspired by the imagery of Martin Parr created by the London pop-up restaurant « The Art of Dining ». Set designer Alice Hodge converted Dock 4 into a Martin Parr universe – kitschy, humorous, ironic, just typically British! Chef Ellen Parr transforms the meals that were photographed by her father into a delicious menu. All five courses are based on typically trashy Parr photos. But, even if the meals look just like on the images, they’ll taste completely different than expected. So the English teacup contains not tea, but instead a tasty Thai consommé. A donut turns out to be savoury – magically created from lentils with clever coconut chutney. An artistically delicious dinner party of a special kind which took place in Kassel after London and Tokyo.
