Three images by Man Ray (1890-1976) are expected to sell for $45,000 in Swann Auction Galleries’ Classic & Contemporary Photographs auction in New York on October 17.
Named by ARTNews as one of the 25 most influential artists of the 20th century, Man Ray befriended Marcel Duchamp and was a founding member of the Dada and Surrealist art movements, exhibiting his photography alongside Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Max Ernst in the first ever Surrealist exhibition in 1925.
Les Ponts Brulés (Burned Bridges), dates to 1935, at the height of Ray’s creative period in Paris, and is estimated at $10,000 to $15,000. Study of an Interior carries the same estimate, as does Spider Woman, circa 1929, later embellished and is included with the deluxe edition of Man Ray’s album To Be Continued Unnoticed, 1948.
