On November 1, 2027, the last living mountain gorilla was killed by poachers in the Congo. For the International Festival of Animal and Nature Photography in Montier-en-Der, the photographer Gilles Martin invites visitors to witness the primate’s symbolic burial with an impressive photographic installation.
The memorial will feature photographs of mountain gorillas accompanied by the text “Memoirs of a Silverback.” This story is all the more symbolic since the animal photographed by Gilles Martin was actually killed by poachers two years after these pictures were taken in the Congo at Virunga National Park.
The posthumous memoirs of Kolinga could quickly become a reality, since Martin’s story is based on ecological, biological and epidemiological fact.
