After presenting the recipients of the 2017 W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund in Humanistic Photography awards on October 18, 2017 (Daniel Garcia Castro, Edmund Clark and Alex Majoli), The Eye of Photography joins the organization and features the works of the prize finalists.
Immigration in Europe began to be a significant phenomenon in the 80s; since this period the numbers of the immigration fluxes have increased and changed, reaching peaks in particular with the outbreak of the Arab Springs and the upheavals in the sub-Saharan countries. After 7 years of work on this topic, describing the routes and efforts of EU to manage the phenomenon, I’m expanding my work describing the processes of inclusion and/or exclusion of the newcomers in the society. I strongly believe that nowadays we need to study the phenomenon in a perspective that allow us to understand how the European society is going to change after the thousands of people that arrived in the last years; and which kind of social challenges the continent will have to face to obtain a multicultural society, respectful of all the diversities.
