En 1966, alors qu’il faisait un reportage sur Andy Warhol pour Life Magazine, Steve Schapiro photographia Lou Reed et le Velvet Underground dans un château en ruine des Hollywood Hills. Ils y attendaient d’être payés pour le spectacle Exploding Plastic Inevitable, pour lequel ils venaient de s’engager. Steve photographia également les membres du Velvet aux studios Specter, à New York, au moment où ils enregistraient leur premier album avec Nico.
Ces photos sont exposées à la galerie Ono Arte Contemporanea à Bologne, sous le titre Lou Reed, Nico and the Velvet Underground. L’exposition est présentée jusqu’au 28 février.
