Artist and explorer born in the Netherlands on November 14, 1957, Jan Gulfoss spent his early years studying Nature. He drew birds and recorded their songs.
In 1974 at the age of sixteen, he moved to France where after studying law, he spent five years at the « Villa Arson » in Nice from 1979 to 1984.
He frequented the workshops of César, Arman, Poumeyrol and met Christo and Peter Greenaway.
He studied in Natural History Museums, zoos and worked especially at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, which he had already discovered in 1974 and which he considers to be his “second studio”.
Jan Gulfoss is currently working on sets in which he stages animals and objects before photographing them. Witnesses of the imprint of man on his environment, the subjects play with our perception and get our space-time confused.
