April 29 marked the 20th anniversary of the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation.
On April 29, 2003, the HCB Foundation was inaugurated at Impasse Lebouis in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. Its first exhibition, The Choices of Henri Cartier-Bresson, presented the works of photographers who particularly inspired the founder of the institution.
Created in 2003 by Henri Cartier-Bresson, his wife Martine Franck and their daughter Mélanie Cartier-Bresson, the Fondation HCB aims to pass on the work of the two founding photographers through the presentation of exhibitions in France and abroad, in collaboration with the most prestigious institutions. For twenty years, the Fondation HCB has been recognized as a reference institution thanks to a demanding program that presents a rare selection of photography through its collection and the work of other artists. Committed to supporting contemporary photography, it awards the HCB Prize every two years and is pleased to be a partner of the Immersion program initiated by the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès.
Located on rue des Archives since 2018, the Foundation has two exhibition spaces, the Cube and the Tube, dedicated to the conservation and transmission of heritage as well as to encouraging reflection on photography.
In the fall of 2023, a program of events specially designed for the 20th anniversary of the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation will invite the public to celebrate this anniversary.
