STANDPIPE

New York, many buildings have a fire hydrant. They are sometimes embedded in the facade of the building sometimes sealed on the sidewalk. The city is hectic, we pass them without really paying attention. The innumerable layers of painting betray the experience of the oldest or, on the contrary, the modernity of the lines are in keeping with the contemporary architecture of the place.

I thought of this series as a walk in the city where I imagine each hydrant as a figure standing at attention, an impassive little soldier, with his singular morphology watching over the restless city, hoping never to have to do ” water”.
