The Monterey Museum of Art. presents an exhibition : Constructing the Photograph.
Here is the work of Diane Pierce one of the 2 photographers !

Thinking About Drawing and Paper Constructs are two series that have recently come together in The Monterey Museum of Art exhibition Constructing the Photograph. Thinking About Drawing explores the daily practice of drawing; it is the prolonged act of looking to make a traditional drawing and then extracting new images through the medium of photography. Some images are straight photographs, and others are pure cameraless images or photograms. Paper Constructs is the residuum of previous tabletop series used to build new, temporary structures collapsing after being photographed. These constructs are the pandemonium of paper, the earlier scraps, and leftovers from day-to-day materials that pass through our hands, animated momentarily to form yet another image. Everything on the studio table is transitory; it flutters and falls, gets taped together, cut and torn, pasted, wrinkled, or added to other material unencumbered, and then disappears.

Earlier deconstructions allow new-sprung objects to be born. Photography makes these objects or constructs seem permanent, but they are elusive and only exist for a few moments of their capture. Historically, the photograph is described as writing or drawing with light, but now it is directly connected. Mark-making, mixed media, and my studio practice reveal new artwork “drawings” within contemporary photography. Diane Pierce uses the medium of photography as her most expressive tool. She studied Painting & Drawing and Photography as an undergraduate student at San Francisco State University and did graduate studies in Photography at Mills College, Oakland, CA. She has a thorough background in traditional and digital skills as well as alternative photographic processes. She has skills in different photographic techniques, works in both editions, or with unique imagery. Her experiments with the medium of photography include representational and abstract observations. Her image arrangements would be best described as still life. The majority of her work has been created on a small tabletop. She has collected, been given, unexpectedly found, or otherwise acquired objects and materials that are incredibly ordinary and extraordinary often at the same time.
