Paris: Where Hunting Dogs Rest by Martin Usborne at Galerie Photo12

Preview

Through July 31st, Galerie Photo12 presents a new series “Where Hunting Dogs Rest” by the photographer Martin Usborne.
He captures typical features of hunting dogs, in which Velázquez’s influence is deeply present. Behind these dogs’ portraits, sometimes proposed in a diptych form, the photographer shows views of the Seville region in Andalusia.
Landscapes reveal places where the dogs found shelter – on the outskirts of the city, riverbanks, large ravines, at the base of branched trees – locations that, in a certain light, offer curious aesthetics, sometimes delicate, but nevertheless depending on the story of the Greyhound.
The artist questions himself about the conditions of the decadence of animal beauty. How has this symbol of aristocracy and valued companion of nobility, painted by Goya, Velazquez and immortalized in the literature of Juan Ruiz and Cervantès, to reference a few, became so disregarded ?
Touched by the actions of the Fondation Benjamin Mehnert and the Carlota Galgo center, the artist and Galerie Photo12 will be donating part of the profits from their sales to the organisations.
