NEKOproject – The photography of cats in Japan as a mirror of a society

Preview

The project is born from the unbroken love story between cats and Japan. Cats are ubiquitous in the everyday environment of the Japanese, whether in the public or private sphere. The importance of blogs and social networks, which publish photographs of cats, reflects a cultural, sociological specificity of Japanese society that deserves to be discovered and questioned.

Add to that, photography, another love story of the Japanese, and you get the good recipe of this project. However, the cat is a difficult subject to photograph, as much because of its character as by its tendency to be too cute. It was therefore a major challenge for Japanese photographers and an opportunity to bring them together and exhibit them around this theme.

87 photographers responded to the call for the project, thus forming a quality photographic proposal, varied and exciting, which is part of a very broad project in Europe (Ibasho gallery in Brussels, Argentic gallery in Paris), which will go on.

This exhibition is accompanied by a book of the same name, NEKO Project, signed by Sophie CAVALIERO and Valérie DOUNIAUX.
