Michel Riehl, Exploitation of lignite mines in Germany

Preview

The willingness to abandon nuclear energy in the coming years has led Germany to choose to operate several open pit lignite mines. And in several regions rich in this fuel close to coal but less efficient, it is intended for power plants, this now accounts for nearly 50% of total energy in Germany. The planned extraction undertaken by the subsidiary RWE extends from 2006 to 2045. But this choice is not without consequences, no other energy emits more CO2 emissions, more certain villages like Immerath, (become the symbol of the struggle of the people who oppose the mines) have been and will be sacrificed as well as the agricultural lands that were attached to it, finally it is thousands of people who will be moved to new constructions, with the same names of villages and streets but without the history and soul of what made the life of a municipality over time and successive generations.
