Maxime Zhang, The Discreet Charm of the Glass Plate

Preview

Science and the latest technology have allowed everyone not only to become a photographer, but also a producer and  image distributor. This progress, which makes photography immediate and easy, little by little has expelled the myth of the photographer, a skilled artisan and master of complex tools and dangerous products, prohibited to ordinary people. For lovers of traditional skills, like me, the production process of a photo remains an immense pleasure. Each time, perfection is challenged, success always uncertain, waiting for the final product creates a feeling that digital photography and video aren’t able to emote. The slightest formulaic error can change the fragile balance of light and shadow and fail the aesthetic project. If each work carries in it the know-how of an artisan photographer and chemist, it also communicates his sensitivity and artistic emotions.
