Les Krims: New Works

Preview

Leslie Krims. He was with Duane Michals and Ralph Gibson, one of the revelations of the young photography of the 70s. He was especially the most provocative of them.

The absolute godfather of the photography at the time was John Szarkowski, the director of the MOMA photo department.

Leslie called him the artrithic tap dancer.

In short, Leslie remained in Buffalo and continued to photograph his fantasies!

From time to time, he lcomes out of his silence and sends an email and some images.

They are amazing, if you subscribe to the archives, look, 3 years ago we dedicated a whole day to him!

Jean-Jacques Naudet

Dear Jean-Jacques,

It’s a great surprise to hear from you. Hard to believe we first met in Paris over 40 years ago!? It will be a pleasure to see my work in L’Oeil de la Photographie!

If I made grab shots from Shutterfly’s layout spreads, presenting an assortment of double-page spreads from the book, would this work? (See attached.)

I chose Shutterfly to print the book because one could use their “Disney themes.” These themes offered copyright-free Disney clip art and page backgrounds (The Walt Disney Family Foundation Press, had published one of my pictures in a beautiful book a couple of years ago, and thought Disney wouldn’t mind). After testing, I discovered Shutterfly’s print quality was good, color reproduction accurate, and I enjoyed the goof. There are 42-double-page spreads in the work. Please let me know how many of these you’d like?

Pictures of Pride, 2005—2017, is a one-off installation piece (edition 1/1). The installed work consists of 135, 17″ (431.8 mm) x 22″ (558.8 mm) ink jet prints separated by 1″. Installed on a gallery wall (wishful thinking) with one inch of separation between pictures, the 135 prints compose a rectangle almost 28′ x 14′. The pictures were made in Buffalo, between 2005 and 2017. How many from the set would you want? I’ve attached a few pictures to illustrate.

The second work is a multiple in the form of a limited edition book (there’s a hard and soft cover version), original ink jet prints, and a CD of a musical work composed by Pascal Comelade (Pascal Comelade, 84 Photomatomatic Pieces for Les Krims, 2018).

At my age, I prefer to work on new things. There are many pictures, sets, and series I’ve never printed.

There’s a lousy blizzard in Buffalo at the moment. Are you in Paris? Will snow blow in the morning.

I appreciate your interest.

Many thanks!

Les
