Atelier des Lumières : Jimmy Nelson – The Last Sentinels

Preview

The Atelier des Lumières, the first digital art center in Paris, is located in a former 19th century foundry. It presents a digital and immersive exhibition The Last Sentinels, a creation based on hundreds of photographs by British photographer Jimmy Nelson.

From October 16 to 31, the Atelier des Lumières will host 16 special evenings as part of the “Save The Planet” series of immersive exhibitions. The Last Sentinels is conceived as a forty-minute journey to the heart of minority indigenous cultures. On the genesis of this film, produced by the Spectre Lab studio, the artist declares :

“Throughout my life, I have wanted to celebrate, in a poetic and artistic way, the last communities in the world that live in harmony with themselves, their culture and their natural environment. On our side, we think that maybe the planet needs us… while the indigenous communities think on the contrary that we are the ones who need the planet.
I think it is time, especially with the news of the last few months, that this message of protection and respect for the planet and its peoples resounds throughout the world.
I wish to share what I have seen, felt and loved through my work as a photographer. The stories I tell can, I hope, help awaken the world and find a way to live better with each other, with ourselves, and with nature.”
