Antoine Cardi – Landscapes/Damages

Preview

This book attempts to give another vision of the Battle of Normandy. In this work, Antoine Cardi is interested in civilian victims offering a vision other than that of military heroism alone. The territory on which we live today in peace was, during the Second World War, the theater of a war of which the procession of violence intensely touched the civil populations. A phenomenon that has become central in contemporary conflicts (the two world wars, but also those more recent as in the Balkans or the Middle East). In the same book, rubbing together photographic work and texts by historians aims at proposing an operation of knowledge of a past that strongly resonates in the present, as well as a reflection on the methods of writing of the past. history and on the capacities of documentary photography – between index fingerprint and imaginary projection – to account for the “real” a reality that has passed by here.
