La Comète, books & photography is a library-gallery opened by PICTO lab.

Like a tribute to his grandfather Pierre Gassmann, mythical figure of French photography in the second half of the 20 th century, Philippe Gassmann, current CEO of the PICTO group, chose to call this new venue La Comète, in memory of the first PICTO lab in La Comète street in Paris in the early 1950s.

La Comète is at 29 rue des Récollets in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. For PICTO it is a question of creating a kind of agora where professionals and amateurs will find different services to their needs … Thus, on the first floor of the bookstore is a new fine art photo workshop, where photographers and amateurs can find two forms of services: access to high definition and self-service quality scanners, and assisted inkjet printing with the lab’s expert board.

The artistic direction of La Comète is carried out by The Eyes, in the continuity of its expertise in the field of photo editing. It is a question of stimulating a programming of installations, meetings and workshops in the service of photographers and passionate about images.

Vincent Marcilhacy, director of Picto Foundation, which supports the ambitions of La Comète, presents the place: “The ambition of PICTO is to create a unique place where all photographers can find services and advice for their work and their images, discover photography through a large selection of books (monographs, historical books, technical books, etc.), and meet many professionals during book signatures, collection presentations, sharing experiences with actors in photography and photo publishishinggraphy, etc.). “

At La Comète, visitors are welcomed by Marc Pussemier and Pauline Boscher, in a warm and friendly space where they are invited both to consult books but also to settle for tea, for reading or meeting.

In the continuity of PICTO’s passion and attention to the know how in print making, for photo book and the problems of today’s photographers, La Comète will also offer a wide selection of special editions, artist’s objects and limited editions. Some items will be exhibited, all will be presented in a catalog for free consultation and available for sale.

Every two months The Comète will propose a program dedicated to the emergence in the field of photo publishing and to photographers. The first installation visible until the end of January offers to discover the work of the(M) editions and in particular their latest book No More No Less with the two artists Thomas Sauvin and Kozuke Koike. The publications of the(M) editions are also exposed.

In 2019 La Comète will also propose a program of working group and workshops to deepen  knowledge and practice of photography. ”

A place to follow a few steps away from the Canal Saint Martin….
