Remmidemmi’s interior scenes

Preview

Self-mockery and the second degree are always present in Remmidemmi’s pictures. Resolutely trashy and intentionally provocative, his photographs show us inanimate bodies, face down, in disrupted situations. In chaotic settings, amongst carefully chosen objects, the series In Interiors (Style with no regret) presents us with figures that have been pushed to the ground. They are frozen and appear to have run aground in a jungle of furniture and ornaments. As violent as they are liberating, these falls symbolise the end of long, uncontrolled drifting. A metaphor for superficiality and human stupidity, they are the high point of lives suffered, rather than lived. “From the fall will come salvation, from the crash will flow consciousness, and laughter”, writes the photographer.

Remmidemmi is represented by the Galerie Alexandre Guillemain, in Paris.
