William Waterworth, 3rd Fashion Picto Prize 2017

Preview

This year, the 3rd Prix Picto  is awarded to British photographer William Waterworth, author of natural and lively photographs.

William Waterworth was born in the North of England before moving south to Shropshire. He first picked up a camera when he was 16 he was heavily influenced by Tim Walker’s book Pictures. He then moved to Paris to study for a year. There in Paris his style grew and his influences dramatically changed. As he begun to discover the work of Jean-Loup Sieff and Peter Lindbergh. Turning to a pre-dominantly Black and White style. “I’d always hoped that my images were more than fashion,” he says. “That they created a link between documentary and fashion. That each series I made had more substance than the commercial drab we see in so many magazines. On returning to England I have begun creating for an exhibition in London in December. The exhibition titled The Rolling English Road, is a journey I’ve made to discover a country I barely know, but a country I call my own. The series submitted are my favourite to date. Through the work I’m creating for the exhibition I hope to create a fine line between fantasy and reality.”
