Esther Haase and the “grincesses”

Preview

The German artist Esther Haase lives in Hamburg and London. She studied classical ballet before turning to photography. She has worked for more than twenty-five years for the great international magazines. Her shots are identifiable thanks to their special lighting and the way she stages her muses, as cool, determined and strong.

As for violent colours, they emphasise baroque spaces. In such sets, Esther Haase’s characters cultivate special swooning fits. In a dramatical way  they mount an attack on beauty magazines. But sometimes their wishes are less pious while seeming to miss their target. Such personalities are no angels and the adoration that the voyeur brings them is probably not necessarily the right kind. In front of the photographer’s mirror, (since doubt is allowed), perhaps they can make it be understood. The charm offensive works and the one who capture them is not the last to play the captive in front of them.
