Opening of Photoville : This Weekend’s Program

The Photoville Festival began Wednesday, September 13 and will run until Sunday, 17. Five days of photographic festivities in the Dumbo district of New York under the famous Brooklyn Bridge. This festival has the particularity of being held in transport containers transformed into exhibition spaces. The festival is free, open to all.

On the exhibition side, viewers can note Nichole Sobeski's climate for conflict, an exhibition on climate change in the world and its causing conflicts. Apparatus of Discomfort presents the works of the students of the photographic department of the Parsons school. China Trough Chinese Eyes is a collective exhibition offering a tremendous panorama on contemporary China. To be also notheworthy is the outdoor exhibition LostInExiles, who provides a window of expression to photographers currently exiled from their country, awaiting for a new new status.

The festival is known for its "Nightimes", which are sessions made of documentary projections, photographic works and discussions inside  transformed containers. This Thursday evening, An Evening with The New York Times allows photographers and photo editors from the New York newspaper to discuss their work and the recent changes in America poltiics. On Sunday evening, POV Presents: Cameraperson & Two Towns of Jasper will offer the audience two poignant documentaries.

The festival also hosts other events, including in the Leica tent. Workshops are planned every day, while guided tours of the many exhibitions are offered by the educational service.
