Stephen Perloff, East and West

Preview

My first photographs were made with a Davy Crockett camera in 1956 when I was eight years old. I received a 35mm camera as a graduation present from high school in 1966 and began to photograph with greater intent. This group of pictures, East and West, features photographs made on a trip to the Far East in 1977 and on a cross-country trip to the American West in 1978. These images represent my reactions to cultural and topographical clashes between each of these cultures and between these places and my own here in the Eastern U.S.
